Journal Entry 5

Date: 20.4.2024

Activity:

- Changed some things based on feedback from labs

- Added a start menu

Notes:

These last changes to the project were based on the playtesting feedback from labs. In some projects I saw a nice custom start menu, so I created my own with a custom logo:

Most of the time here was spent in Photoshop, but I also had to fix ScreenFader. By adding the start menu, it created its own ScreenFader (the default one from GameDev kit). But it of course doesn't have my own custom end screens. It was not overwritten when transitioning to my game scene as it is marked to never be destroyed. I fixed this by simply moving my own ScreenFader here.

Next, I applied some feedback from lab players. I rearranged and changed some decorative assets and added a visible sprite for the teleporter back from an optional area. Next, I made the moving platform wait a bit at the start of its path. This was not as straightforward as it should have been as the wait time is not modifiable for the first node. This was fixed by adding a third node and changing behavior to 'LOOP'.

Lastly, I added some more light effects. In one part it's mentioned that the character can see light from the outside, so it was only logical to put it there. It was also added to the spring boots item as it is pretty dark, and players were confused what it was when they picked it up.

Invested hours:

Changing stuff based on feedback: 2.5 hours

Adding start menu: 30 minutes
